A guide to Shopify themes – Tips on finding and working with themes on Shopify

There are many elements that make up the success of an online store. One of them is of course the fact that you need to have high quality items or services for sale, and your customer support needs to be on point. But once you move away from those rather organic features that an online shop needs, you have to think about the shop theme. Make no mistake in believing that you’ll get away with using just any theme. The way any website looks plays a huge role in how it is perceived and appreciated by those interested in what it has to offer. Without the best design, you are not going to be as successful. Interested in learning more? Let’s see what you need to know about finding and using Shopify themes.

The basic theme is OK for beginners

Forget what we’ve said just a moment ago, and remember this: There’s nothing wrong with using the default theme which is given to you at the start, if you’re a beginner. If this is your first Shopify store or online store in general, you probably have a lot of things on your mind. If you just don’t feel comfortable splitting your attention enough so that you can handle working with a custom theme, you can just use the default one until you find more time and a more forgiving schedule.  The default theme is actually great and really well made, and it will serve you well while you discover the platform and all that it has to offer.

Using the filters and suggestions

Once you do decide that you are ready to try out some custom themes, you will be baffled by the sheer size of your catalog of choices. There are a lot of themes that you can choose from and that can certainly make it a lot more daunting. However, your job becomes a lot easier once you start using the provided tools. Use the search filters in order to get specific search results based off of what you are most interested in seeing in your themes. There are multiple suggestions around the site, such as theme examples, which show you how each theme actually works on top of a real website. It’s great to see this sort of sneak peak because it helps you get a better idea of what you’re downloading.

Know what you’re looking for

The key to a successful search is to know what the answer looks like. If you just browse mindlessly for good looking themes, you will never make up your mind. It’s important to know exactly what you are looking for. For the most part you want to be focusing on themes that are similar to what successful competitors have. If you know a successful business that you want to emulate, look for elements specific to that business which can be found in some of the Shopify themes.

Finding the right theme is not so much about which is the best, but which is the best for you. There are a lot of variables  that come into play  but it’s ok to experiment and even try on a couple of different themes before you change your mind.
